Producer & director.
James Wright is a first-year MFA student in Film & Television Production at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts and a 2025 George Lucas Scholar.
James developed his passion for visual storytelling early in life through drawing cartoons, making animated films, and editing videos. He discovered his love for photography and filmmaking while living abroad and documenting his travels throughout Europe, Asia, and New Zealand. Since then, his path has been dedicated to creating impactful documentaries, short films, and commercial productions.
In 2024, James ran his freelance business, Tideline Creative, producing high-quality media for San Diego small businesses and nonprofits. The year before, he served as assistant producer on a four-part docuseries addressing mental health stigma in the U.S. His 2022 short documentary, Major, received two KPBS GI Film Festival award nominations and coverage from PB Monthly and Beach & Bay Press. In 2021, he co-produced and shot a student film, Life After Lockdown, that was selected by the San Diego International Film Festival.
